What is "information literacy"?
Students attend Library Skills classes from grades PK-8 at Caravel Academy and are taught information literacy skills.
But what is information literacy? According to the American Library Association, "Information Literacy is the set of skills needed to find, retrieve, analyze, and use information." Information literacy skills teach students how to know when they need information and how to find it in a complex information age.

- Caravel Academy has two libraries each run by a Librarian and a Teacher Aid.
- Our Libraries support teachers and students with resources and update material frequently based on school needs through use of surveys and direct contact in classrooms.
- We subscribe to UDLib/SEARCH, a diverse and thorough collection of databases, and teach students how to independently find valid and reliable resources.
- Our Upper School Library is also members of the Interlibrary loan program through the University of Delaware and can borrow material from their catalog for students that request or need other material.
- We have a dynamic collection of novels, both new and classics, and follow student recommendations to acquire new material.
- Along with research and reading material, we also support classrooms by teaching students directly the skills required or needed for their individual research projects.
- Our Libraries have updated and current technology such as Macbook carts
- We offer both in house and outside reading incentives, book clubs, STEM activities, Maker clubs, Battle of the Books, and 3D printing.
- Our Librarians are fun, friendly, kind, and well experienced in teaching, reading, literacy, technology, and research.
