athletics

Caravel has a diversified Athletic program with a variety of sports offered.
Sports Schedules:
buccaneerssports.com

Caravel Academy, as the recipient of DIAA sportsmanship awards, expects all student athletes, fans, coaches, and officials to display respect, fairness, and honesty before, during and after all athletic contests.  As models for their children, we expect adults to uphold the same high standards that we ask of our students regarding respect for officials and the opposing team.  Opposing team members, fans, and game officials shall always be treated as honored guests at home and worthy adversaries when away.

We participate because we believe that competitive team experiences offer our students opportunities to test their abilities and learn from others who are similarly talented.  Our many team activities also contribute significantly to the development of character, mutual support, school spirit and sportsmanship.  Competition against other schools enables our student athletes to develop and demonstrate respect for teammates, coaches, opponents, and officials as well as fair play.

Caravel Academy offers athletic teams based on student interest and facilities available each season.  Although academic life is the priority at our school, our Board of Education strongly supports our athletic teams as well.  Students in grades six through twelve have the opportunity to represent their school in interscholastic athletics in accordance with the DIAA (Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association).  Varsity sports involve competition with other teams statewide.

SINCERELY,

Craig Bailey

Larry Banks hired as Girls Varsity Basketball Coach

Larry Banks has been hired as the new Girls Varsity Basketball Coach at Caravel Academy.  Mr. Banks has a long and distinguished coaching history, starting with his time as an assistant at Caravel Academy in the early 2000’s. After seven years there, he went to Delaware Technical Community College, where he was an assistant coach for two seasons before becoming the Head Coach in 2010. During his time there, his teams made the Region XIX playoffs eight out of ten seasons, and Mr. Banks was honored as Region XIX and District 11 Coach of the Year.

For the past four seasons, Mr. Banks has been an Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Wilmington University.

Mr. Banks replaces long-time Caravel head coach Kristin Caldwell, who stepped down after the most recent basketball season. Caldwell, whose team won the DIAA State Championship this past March, had been the head coach at Caravel for 16 years.
