Athletic Trainer

Caravel Academy is hiring a full-time Athletic Trainer for the 2024-2025 school year. Interested applicants should be certified through the NATA-BOC, licensed by the State of Delaware, and be certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid along with other qualifications outlined below.  Salary is negotiable at the time of job offer.  Discount towards tuition along with additional benefits are available including medical insurance.
Qualifications:
  • Must be a certified athletic trainer through the NATA-BOC, licensed by the State of Delaware, and be certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of the DIAA regulations and other regulations governing high school athletic programs
  • Must possess the ability to maintain accurate records and prepare related reports
  • Must possess excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff members, and the public
  • Must be available UP TO 40 hours/week (typically 3:00pm to 8:00pm, but varies depending on game schedules and immediate needs)
  • The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies
  • Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time
  • Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
  • The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment or outdoors
  • Work may require the ability to move around the school, gymnasiums, or athletic fields
  • All persons employed by Caravel are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test
  • Qualified employees must have the requisite skills, experience, education, and licenses for the job, and must also be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations
Responsibilities:
  • Conducts initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness in order to provide emergency or continued care, and to determine whether they should be referred to physicians for treatment
  • Provides care for athletic injuries
  • Evaluates athletes' readiness to play, and provides participation clearances when necessary and warranted
  • Applies protective or injury preventive devices such as tape, bandages, or braces
  • Assesses and reports the progress of recovering athletes to coaches and physicians
  • Advises athletes on the proper use of equipment
  • Plans and implements comprehensive athletic injury prevention programs
  • Develops training programs and routines designed to improve athletic performance
  • Attends all home games, Varsity Football games, and any other games designated by the Athletic Director/Principal
  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities
  • Completes end of the year inventory and compiles list of needed supplies for the following year
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
  • Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Duties may be performed away from school

Caravel Academy is seeking aftercare teachers to begin September 2023 through the school year. Hours are from 3pm to 6pm and individuals are paid $14.50/hour.
