Apply to Caravel
HOW TO APPLY
Applying is easy using our Online Application. We encourage families to apply online as it simplifies submission and provides parents a tool for tracking online the status of their admission after their application has been submitted. A non-refundable fee of $100.00 (5th-12th grade) or $80.00 (preschool - 4th grade) must be submitted with each application.
If you are new to Caravel Academy and do not have a RenWeb account, click New Online Application to create an account and start the application. You will then have the flexibility to log in and out of your account and access your open application.
If you already have a RenWeb account, click Application Log In (for existing users) to log in with your current RenWeb credentials and complete the application.
After submitting the application, you will be able to track online your admissions status at the school by logging in to your account. There you will be able to print the completed applications, monitor when the school receives supplemental application forms and, if necessary, reprint the supplemental forms.

for grade 1 through 12
- A non-refundable application fee of $100.00 (5th-12th grade) or $80.00 (pre-K - 4th grade) is due with the application to begin the admission process.
- Applications should be submitted online.
- The application process is only complete when all the following conditions have been met:
- The application has been filled out completely and is accompanied by a current picture of the child and application fee (includes testing fee).
- The child has successfully completed the testing process.
- We have received the student evaluations from the preschool & kindergarten teacher (grade 1), student evaluations from the current elementary teacher and school guidance counselor or administrator (grades 2-5) or student evaluations from the current math teacher, English teacher, and school guidance counselor or administrator (grades 6-12). These documents should be sent directly from the teachers/counselors to Caravel Academy.
- We have received a copy of the most recent standardized test scores, a final report card from the most recent grade completed, and the most recent report card from the current grade.
- We offer our entrance exam once per month. We will schedule your child to test as soon as we receive your application. You will receive a confirmation letter or email regarding testing.
- (Grades 1-4) Parents and students should report to the lower school library for testing.
- (Grades 5-12) Parents and students should report to the main office. The test takes approximately 2 hours. There is a reading comprehension, math, and writing component.
- Once we have received your application, report cards, standardized test scores, teacher evaluations, and you have taken the Caravel entrance exam, your application will be considered for admission.
- We generally have an idea of how many openings we will have for the following school year in March. At this time, our Admissions Committee will meet and evaluate all applicants.
- Results of the Admissions Committee review are released in March or April.
- If the Admissions Committee determines that your child is eligible for admission, and space is available, parents will receive an acceptance letter and email with instructions for completing the online enrollment. The child’s seat is reserved only when the online enrollment contract is completed and submitted with a $400 enrollment fee per child.
- In some cases, students are asked to remain on the waiting list until a seat becomes available. A $400 enrollment fee per child is required to maintain waiting list status. When seats become available we will inform you immediately by telephone. If you decide to enroll, we will then – and only then deposit your check. The amount of time required for an opening to occur varies from weeks to months or longer. We make every effort to accommodate you and your child as quickly as possible.
- Applicants who are not considered eligible for admission by the Admissions Committee will receive a letter stating the decision.
FOR Preschool and kindergarten
Pre School Office 302.397.2827, ext. 122
- We are happy to accept applications at any time of the year. Please keep in mind that our classes for the next school year begin to fill in the early spring. You may apply online.
- Please fill out the application completely and include a current picture of your child. You may pay with a credit card online or send a check (made payable to Caravel Academy) for the $80 application fee.
- Please have your child’s current daycare provider or teacher complete the Student Evaluation: Preschool & Kindergarten. It may be emailed, faxed (302-834-3658), or mailed to the school. This form need not be completed before the testing, but it is an important element of the application review process. (Of course, if your child is not attending daycare or school at present, the form is non-applicable.)
- Although we do not require the “official Delaware cut-off birth dates” for enrollment, we do use this as a guidance. The child’s chronological age is a factor for evaluation and will be considered for acceptance and then possibly placement. Skipping ahead a grade level must be considered carefully.
- Please keep in mind that all children must be fully potty trained by the time school starts with no pull-ups or diapers.
- Once we have received your application, our Office Manager, Mrs. Day will call to arrange a testing time.
- Testing is performed by preschool staff and is a one-on-one interview with each child which lasts from 35 to 60 minutes, depending on the child’s age and development. We use the tests from the Gesell Institute of Human Development to assess a child’s developmental age. The child is invited to perform several tasks, such as building with blocks, copying various forms and shapes, drawing and being able to communicate with the examiner on an effective level.
- Testing is not required for the preschool program.
