Caravel Academy > Activities > Student Government

For Grades 9-12

The Caravel Student Government (CSG) is made up of the entire high school, but most of the work is done by the executive committee. The executive committee meets every Monday during the last period of the day. Here the students brainstorm and work on dances, signs, and other activities that CSG is sponsoring.

Fall In the Fall  we focus on Homecoming ceremonies. We welcome back the Alumni with stadium decorations during the football game. The big Homecoming Dance is the highlight of the Fall season.

Winter In December, we begin the annual spirit wall competition. Each class gets a section of  the hallway to decorate for the holiday season. A theme unifies the spirit walls and the tree trim ceremony. Throughout the month the CSG  holds a gift drive for the trip to A.I.  DuPont Hospital to help Santa give  gifts to the children.

During the month of January the CSG provides the teachers with treats, support, encouraging notes, and even breakfast one morning during teacher appreciation week.

During February, the CSG hosts the Sweetheart dance. There are many pre dance activities including secret admirer week, where students can write notes to other students that they care about,  and hush days. During the hush days, paper hearts are given out to all the girls in the high school on one day and boys on the next day. The students with the hearts can not talk to the opposite sex, if they do then their heart belongs to that person. The student who collects the most hearts will get free admission to the dance, and runners up will receive other prizes.

Spring In the Spring,  the CSG has an Easter Egg hunt for lower and pre school children. Eggs are filled with different types of candy and the children look for the eggs, which are hidden by the CSG members. The Easter Bunny may also make an appearance.

As a service project the CSG works with elementary school children after school to provide them with enrichment-type activities.  Activities include: acting, martial arts, clay molding, country line dancing, and leadership games.

The CSG holds its convention in the Spring to elect new officers for the next year.

At the end of the school year the CSG plans a fun trip for all high school students to an amusement park.

Summer The new officers meet over the summer to discuss and plan for the new school year.

A training session is held for all members of the CSG Executive Committee in August.  A new student orientation is also held in August to help all new Upper School students at Caravel feel welcome and comfortable.
