Caravel Academy > Upper School
[Required Summer Reading Information ]
| Learning to learn is
an important feature of the upper school (grades 9 to 12) curriculum. In
order to prepare students both for college and lifelong
learning, our graduation requirements, while based on the
expectations of many colleges, actually demand more from
our students. The core courses of English, mathematics,
science, social science, and foreign language are
enhanced by elective offerings in these same subject
areas. Physical education, art, music, and computer
science are required at some point during the upper
school experience. Students learn to research, write, and
use higher level thinking skills in
each discipline from the ninth grade to the twelfth. Each
student is required to read and report on three books over the summer. Our upper school
students are required to perform 20 hours of school or
community service per year and participate in one extracurricular
activity. Of prime importance in the
upper school is aiding students in making appropriate
career choices. Caravel is proud that virtually all of
its graduates are accepted at the college of their
choice. |
