In grades 5-8, we continue to
emphasize high self-esteem and stress the importance of
responsibility through a departmentalized team approach.
Reading comprehension and writing skills combined with
grammar rules and application are emphasized. Science is
taught through a "hands-on" approach, while
social studies stresses applying learned facts to
"real life" situations. Math class involves
students in application exercises such as math league,
calculator and computer skills, as well as emphasis on
skills of basic computation and theory. Foreign language,
physical education, art, and music complete this
outstanding academic program.
A wide variety of
extracurricular activities is offered to all middle
schoolers. We believe strongly in educating a
well-rounded person that beginning in the sixth grade, we
require students to participate in one extracurricular activity per year. All middle and upper school students
fulfill summer reading requirements which encourage
reading for pleasure and information.
