3-Year Old Program
The three year old curriculum stresses social awareness. The children learn to work cooperatively with each other and to appreciate themselves as individuals. When developmentally ready, they are exposed to colors, shapes, numbers, and other units of study. To supplement the curriculum we offer specials; i.e. gym, music, and library. A three day and five day morning schedule (8:15-11:30) is available as well as a full day program (8:15-3:00) in the Blue Room.
4-Year Old Program
The four year old curriculum carefully guides children into systematic number thinking as well as language development. Reading readiness is stressed, with activities to strengthen letter recognition and sounds. To supplement the curriculum we offer specials, i.e. gym, music, and library. A five day morning (8:15-11:30) or full day program is available in both the Red Room and the White Room.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK)
Our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a full-time program for children who need academic challenges but are not "ready" for Caravel's academic kindergarten. The smaller class size, pace of the day, and instruction geared to individual developmental levels offer a "bridge" for children who need the gift of time to develop confidence, self-reliance, and maturity. It challenges young learners with curricular goals in language arts, mathematics, and other academics that are aligned with kindergarten standards while supporting their social and emotional growth. In the Yellow Room, TK compliments but does not duplicate our kindergarten program and also includes "specials" in art, foreign language, library, music, physical education, and science enrichment.
Kindergarten
The full-day kindergarten program offers developmentally appropriate academic challenges with developmentally appropriate activities to prepare children for first grade. A research based phonics approach is the basis of our reading program. Each child in the Green, Orange, or Purple Room progresses at an individualized rate in reading and mathematics and is exposed to a variety of experiences in sciences, social studies, technology, and the arts. In addition, the curriculum is supplemented by "specials" in art, foreign language, library, music, physical education, and science enrichment.
Placement testing can be arranged by calling Mrs. Day at (302) 834-8938. Testing will begin in January prior to the school year attendance is desired.
